How long should my karate belt be?
The length is really up to personal preferences, organization guidelines, and competition rules. I personally like my belt to go down to mid-thigh, or an inch or two shorter, but I ‘ve seen people with belts that only come down about three inches from the knot, and people with belts that touch their knees.
What are karate belt colors?
There are 6 belt colors: white belt, orange belt, blue belt, yellow belt, green belt, brown belt, and black belt. All belts besides the white belt can have dashes to indicate further progress. Here is a summary of the different karate belts.
Do you wear clothes under karate uniform?
Women and girls will wear a t-shirt, tank top, sports bra or other appropriate clothing under their dobok top. Preferably the garments will be white if visible. For first Dan and higher a black undergarment is acceptable. Men and boys will not wear t- shirts or other shirts under their dobok tops.
What do you call a karate uniform?
The Karate uniform is called a Gi (pronounced ghee). In actual fact, we should refer to our uniform as a karategi if you practice karate and a judogi if you practice judo, and so on.
What should I wear to karate?
You can wear sweat pants or baggy shorts, and a t-shirt if you are trying a karate /taekwondo class. If you are attending an aikido or systema class it is best to wear sweat pants and a long-sleeved shirt. This protects your knees and elbows from getting abrasions on the mat when you learn the basic falling skills.
